CHITRAL: An awareness seminar about tuberculosis (TB) was held here on Thursday under the aegis of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) in connection with world TB day in which representatives of civil society participated in large number.
District TB control officer Dr. Farrah Javed gave a detailed presentation about the disease and said that the disease was proliferating in alarming rate in Chitral due to the lack of awareness while most people hesitated even to undergo diagnosis for it due to the social condition.
She said that due to the poverty, the people from the far-flung areas of the district did not afford to travel to the DHQ hospital for diagnosis and treatment to avail the facility of free treatment there.
The health officer of MALC, Mustafa Kamal said that his organization is providing free diagnosis and treatment facilities to the patients attending the private clinics and for this purpose, it has imparted extensive training to 19 doctors posted in Chitral city, Drosh and Booni.
He said that free medical camps for TB patients in the remote areas of the district where awareness sessions are also held.
Qari Jamal Abdul Nasir, Zaheeruddin, Sajidullah advocate, Nabek Sharakat Kalash advocate and others also expressed their views on the need of social awareness to control the disease of TB.
