Avalanche hit, 7 Persons died in Ziarat

CHITRAL: Seven persons were killed when heavy avalanches hit
the entrance of the 1.8 KM. long under construction access tunnel
of the mega Lawari road tunnel project in Ziarat site of Chitral on
Tuesday night. According to details reaching here three ill fated
persons were employee of the SAMBO Company engaged in the
construction of the project. Those who lost their lives in the
incident are driver Mumtaz s/o Gul Nawab of Ashirat, Farman
electrician of Mardan, Muhammad Din of Panakot Dir, Inayatur Rehman
of Kolandai Dir, Ehsanullah s/o Syedullah of Samar Bagh Dir,
Hussain Ahmad S/o Rehmanuddin of Ziarat and Shoab Ashirat. Jawans
of Chitral Scouts and Chitral Police have started rescue operation
while local community is also extending help. Police source told
that so for three dead bodies have been recovered from the glacier.
Source told that Korean Engineers are safe in this incident.
It is pertinent to mention here that for the last seven days
Chitral District is receiving consecutive rain and snow fall. The
10500 feet high Lawari top has received 7 feet snow fall so for.
Traffic through the under construction Lawari tunnel is also
suspended due to heavy snow fall at both sites of the tunnel. PIA
flights are also suspended for the last 7 days. Civic life in the
valley is paralyzed . Passengers movement is also suspended and all
roads leading to various valleys including, Garumchashma, Mastuj,
Mulkhow , Torkhow, Booni, Kalash valley , Shishikoh etc have also
been blocked. Local as well as national grid power is suspended
while telephonic facilities is also out of order in most part of
District. Meanwhile Chitral town received 8 inch fresh snow fall,
while upper district received more then one feet.
