Transfer of C&W Executive Engineer demanded
BY Zahiruddin
CHITRAL,: The president of All
Contractors Association Noor Ahmed Khan has demanded of the
government to transfer the executive engineer of Communication and
works (C&W) department Chitral who is creating hurdles for the
local contractors. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday,
he alleged that the officer is trying to make the routine matters
difficult for the local contractors.
Flanked by tens of other contractor leaders Mughal Baz, Jandullah
Khan, Sarfaraz Khan and others, he said that on the pretext of
acting on public works code, the officer has debarred the majority
of contractors from competing in the tender for the construction of
suspension bridge in Booni and Chitral city. He said that hundreds
of local contractors have been rendered jobless by the incumbent
executive engineer for the last one year.
Meanwhile, the local police arrested the
contractor leaders soon after they addressed the press conference
who had beaten a non-local contractor for participating in the
tendering process while the local contractors had boycotted it.
The SHO of Chitral Police station Zaffar Ahmed said that the
contractors had forcibly stopped the officials of the department
from performing their duties and had instigated the other
contractors for rising against the department.
