Inhabitants of Drosh restored electric power on self-help basis
By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL: The residents of Drosh town called off their strike
on Sunday afternoon when they restored the power supply to the town
on self-help basis by repairing and filling the fissures of the
water channel of the power house. Union nazim of Drosh-II told
chitraltimes.com that more than two hundred persons took part in
the work for three days while small hydel development organization
(SHYDO) failed to do for three months leading to failure of power
supply to the town. He said that the power station had been closed
down by the SHYDO management for one week soon after its being
commissioned to work in November last. He regretted that no work
was started on the repair of the channel which forced the consumers
to resort to protests. Haji Muhammad Shifa, a member of the action
committee for restoration of power supply warned the government
that protest movement will be launched with full might if the
elements of SHYDO are not brought to book for their corruption in
the construction of the power station. He alleged that a large
scale bungling has taken place in the construction of the power
station by its substandard construction. Expressing his
astonishment over the indifferent attitude of the government
towards the situation, he said that no action was taken against the
site engineers and its contractors when it failed to work for a
