ZC decides to resist against administrators

By Zahiruddin

CHITRAL: In a resolution passed by the Zila Council held on Tuesday, the members decided to put resistance to the administrators when appointed by the government and demanded caretaker nazims to run the district governments and tehsil municipal administrations. Chaired by convener Sultan Shah, the members criticized the provincial government for hatching conspiracy against the district governments soon after coming to power. They said that they were also elected representatives of the people and bypassing the district governments is mockery of the people. They alleged that the provincial government has tried to squeeze and paralyze the district governments by withholding the funds by the local council board after their release from the finance department. They said that they will go to any length to put resistance to the hand picked administrators and said that only caretaker nazims will be acceptable after announcement of date for local bodies’ polls. The members also held responsible the bureaucracy for the failure of the system and said that the devolution of power had relieved them of the high-handedness of the unbridled bureaucrats. The district nazim took strong notice of the absence of the officers of various departments of the district government including district coordination officer. He warned that the district government is still in place and stern action will be taken against the defiant officers. He said that government officers should not be part of any conspiracy against the district government. He discussed at length the benefits of the existing system of local government and termed a panacea for the oppressed masses. He advised the ANP-led government of the province not to tinker with a best system of local government that the country has ever seen. The members taking part in the debate included Amirullah, Haider Abbas, Qayyum Baig, Sohrab Khan, Shamsher Ali Khan, Said Jalal, Muhammad Qadir Shah and others.
