AVDP & CSP signed on MoU to prop up Kalasha people

CHITRAL: To contain the high rate of mortality of newly born
children in the Kalash valleys of Bumbuarate, Rumbur and Birir,
Ayun and valleys Development Project (AVDP) entered into an
agreement with Child Survival Programme (CSP) of Aga Khan Health
Service here on Tuesday. Chairman of AVDP Rahmat Ilahi told
chitraltimes.com that under the agreement, CSP will provide
technical and financial facilities to arrest the growing number of
neonatal deaths in the valleys. He said that due to the rampant
poverty in the valleys, there is lake of medical facilities and
awareness and unhygienic conditions. He said that under the
project, the expected mothers will be provided endowment funds to
enable her to meet her expenses and ensure her nutrition as per
requirement. He said that out of the funds, the requirements of the
newly born babies will also be met. Mr. Ilahi said that training
will be provided to the community midwives and basic kits will also
be provided to them by Aga Khan Health Service.
