No more food shortage in Chitral: DCO
By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL: Chitral DCO Rahmatullah Wazir has said that the
shortage of the commodities of daily consumption has been removed
and the smooth supply of food items ensured. Talking to
chitraltimes.com here on Wednesday, he said that the recent
torrential rains and the resultant floods have played havoc with
the road infrastructure of the district and had crippled life. He
said due to the closure of Lowari Top road, the replenishment of
essential commodities of the district had been stopped causing its
acute shortage. Mr. Wazir said that as many thirty nine suspension
bridges over the river have been washed away by the river which had
run amuck and the road communication of different valleys have been
severed. He said that special arrangements have been made to
provide the necessary items of daily life to such valleys while
Army helicopters airdropped food items to the two valleys of
Karimabad and Arkari which have been completely cut off from the
rest of the district. He said that out of the thirty six valleys of
the district, more than twenty are now without road and suspension
bridge facilities. He said that the residents of most of the
valleys climb the hills with the help of rope and ladder to cross
over to other parts of the district. Mr. Wazir said that the
Chitral town is without drinking water for the last two weeks as
the water supply scheme of Angargoon has been swept away by the
flood but it will restored within a couple of days. He said that
the life has come to normal throughout the district but it will
take a considerable length of time and resource to restore the
infrastructure devastated by the floods.
