Torrential rains and flood enter the second day

CHITRAL: Torrential rains entered the third consecutive day
on Thursday in Chitral and washed away more houses, lands and
suspension bridges over the river and steams and suspending
vehicular traffic. Assistant coordination officer Miftahuddin told
chitraltimes.com that Booni town in upper Chitral has been hit
severely by the flood from where people have been removed to the
safer place at Kaghlusht where tent village has been established.
He said that the newly constructed government degree college Booni
is being hit by river flood and water will enter the building any
time from where students have been evacuated. He said that the
villages of Chuinj, Brep and Sor Laspur have also been hit by flood
where a large number of people have been rendered homeless.
Meanwhile, in Kalash valley of Bumburate, the rest house of Chitral
Scouts was away by the flood in the stream along with dozens of
suspension bridges across the valley. The PTDC hotel of the Tourism
Ministry of Government of Pakistan is also on the brink of flood
danger from where guests were evacuated for their safety. The 36-km
long road from Ayun village to the two Kalash valleys of Bumburate
and Rumbur were closed for all kind of vehicular traffic as the
road has been damaged by the flood. In Garam Chashma valley also,
the flood has caused devastation to the human settlements. In Drosh
town, a woman lost her life when the currents of flash flood hit
her.

SBP extends deadline for submission of claims under PM’s Fiscal
Relief Package

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan has extended the deadline
to August 16, 2010 for submission of claims by banks/DFIs/MFBs
under the Prime Minister’s Fiscal Relief Package to rehabilitate
economic life in Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal
Areas (FATA) and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (PATA).
Earlier, the State Bank had fixed July 31, 2010 as the deadline for
banks/DFIs/MFBs to claim mark-up rate differential under the
Package. The deadline has been extended to facilitate banks/DFIs/MFBs
and the borrowers of these areas.
