Chitral, Colonel (retd) Muhammad Sardar has alleged nepotism and
bungling in awarding the lease of different mineral deposits on the
behest and patronage of provincial minister of mineral department.

district heads of different political parties including PPP, PML
and JUI, he said that the minister has allotted as many as ten
sites of precious mines to his younger brother Sikander Zeb
floundering all rules and norms for awarding the lease. He said
that the all-powerful coterie of the minister in the department is
doling out the mineral sites to the favourites and neglecting
altogether the local aspirants. Mr. Sardar further alleged that
when a local person approaches the office for lease of a particular
site of mines, the officials take idea of the occurrence of the
site and allot it to their own people the very next day. He said
that this situation has resulted in heart burning among the local
people who are now determined to oust the non-local leaseholders.
He said that transparent ways and means must be adopted in awarding
the lease of mineral deposits which has a galore in the district.
He demanded of the chief minister to bridle his minister and
restrict him to play ducks and drakes of the mineral wealth of
Chitral and conduct inquiry against him and cancel all the shady
lease agreements. Giving the deadline of August 1, he warned that
the people of Chitral will rise against this great injustice and
peaceful situation will be shattered down.
