Shandur Festival-Shandur team won the final by 11 goals

CHITRAL: In the fianal of Shandur polo festival played in the highest pologround of the world here on Friday, Shandur polo club beat the Lowari polo club by eleven goals. Lowari club presented a poor performance and could score only one goal against that of the twelve goals of Shandur club. Shandur team was represented by Shahzada Sikandar (team captain), Muhammad Hussain, Shahzad, Mirajuddin and Israr Ali. Provincial information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain gave away prizes to the players. It was for the first time that the festival was boycotted by Gilgit team and the festival was participated by ten teams of the district.

The information minister of KPK Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that terrorism must be nipped and crashed in Punjab to save the other provinces of the country because Punjab serves as the nursery of terrorists. Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the final match of Shandur Polo Festival here on Friday, he expressed the determination of the provincial government of wiping out terrorism from the area and said that they shrank from sacrifice to achieve this goal. Regarding the controversy of ownership of Shandur pasture, he reiterated that as per revenue records, Shandur has been a part of KPK and Chitral. he asked the PPP leadership to settle the question and said that the issue should not have been arise because PPP is the ruling party both in the centre and GB and coalition partner in KPK. He asked the federal government to decide the case once and for through a judicial commission. Without accepting a single demand of development works put forward by the MNA and MPAs of the district, Mr. Hussain said that all the problems including that of the upgradation of Matuj tehsil to district level will be solved by the government. Expressing his rhetoric, he said that being the true follower of Bacha Khan, the chief minister will take every step to bring this backward district at par with the developed districts. Earlier, addressing the gathering, sports minister Aqil Shah announced a number of project for the promotion of sports and tourism in the area. He announced to construct a foot ball stadium and water sports complex in Chitral. mr. Shah also announced to invite foreign polo teams to the Shandur polo festival to make it an international event.
