Govt: playing to the tunes of America ....... Moulana Attaur Rehman

CHITRAL: Just forgetting or ignoring for a while the fact of his being a part of the government, the federal minister of tourism Moulana Attaur Rahman of JUI came hard on the PPP government and hurled blames on it for playing to the tunes of America alienating the tribal people from the country. Addressing the party workers in Chitral, he alleged that the PPP government is doing its utmost to please America which further promotes terrorism in the country. Regarding the 18th amendment in the conistitution, he said that the government wanted to delete the word ‘Islamic’ from it just to please its foreign rulers but JUI aborted all such attempts. Defending the stay of his party in the government despite all this, he said that it wanted to promote Islamic system of government while remaining within it.

PASDEC establishes a model quarry for marble and granite

CHITRAL: Pakistan Stones Development company (PASDEC) has established a model quarry for the mechanical mining of the marble and granite in Chitral mountains replacing the old method of blasting which causes 85 percentage of the commodity. In its inauguration ceremony held here on Wednesday in a local hotel, the MNA from Chitral Shahzada Mohyudin, former district nazim Maghfirat Shah and general manger of PASDEC Lutfur Rahman and others termed it a revolutionary measure for stone development in sustainable way. They said that the mechanized mining of marble enhances its price five times and carried greater dividend than the traditional way of blasting. They observed that the existing market value of one ton of marble is 10500 rupees when processed mechanically while it is only two thousand rupees when mined through blasting. They said that strategy working group (SWOG) has been introduced to give a full fledged status of industry to stone development and a number of model quarries have been established across the country. They also described the achievements of SWOG in detail from Khuzdar Baluchistan to Buner Swat and Chitral and said that it provided job opportunities to thousands of jobless youth while imparted training to hundreds of them. They added that the private sector is being patronized and encouraged under SWOG and machinery for mechanical mining and processing are leased out to the interested parties in the private sector. Regarding the tremendous potential of stone development in Chitral, they said that stretching over an area of 14850 square kilometers, about 95 percent of its area contains marbles and granites but all it remains underutilized in the absence of mining on scientific lines. They also stressed the need of accelerating on the establishment of marble city in the district to provide marketing facilities. Former nazim of Broze union council Abdul Haq, president of miners association Qadir Shah also discussed the problems confronting the sector.

First day of Shandur Festival, Gobor team beat laspur & Biyar beat Koh club

CHITRAL: Gobor team beat the Laspur team by one goal and Biyar polo club beat the Koh club by four goals in the first day of Shandur polo festival which started here on Wednesday at Shandur polo ground. Although, Gilgit team has boycotted the festival, the ground was jam packed by polo fans from Chitral and the tourists who have thronged here in large number.
