CHITRAL: Just forgetting or ignoring for a while the fact of
his being a part of the government, the federal minister of tourism
Moulana Attaur Rahman of JUI came hard on the PPP government and
hurled blames on it for playing to the tunes of America alienating
the tribal people from the country. Addressing the party workers in
Chitral, he alleged that the PPP government is doing its utmost to
please America which further promotes terrorism in the country.
Regarding the 18th amendment in the conistitution, he said that the
government wanted to delete the word ‘Islamic’ from it just to
please its foreign rulers but JUI aborted all such attempts.
Defending the stay of his party in the government despite all this,

and granite
By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL: Pakistan Stones Development company (PASDEC) has
established a model quarry for the mechanical mining of the marble
and granite in Chitral mountains replacing the old method of
blasting which causes 85 percentage of the commodity. In its
inauguration ceremony held here on Wednesday in a local hotel, the
MNA from Chitral Shahzada Mohyudin, former district nazim Maghfirat
Shah and general manger of PASDEC Lutfur Rahman and others termed
it a revolutionary measure for stone development in sustainable
way. They said that the mechanized mining of marble enhances its
price five times and carried greater dividend than the traditional
way of blasting. They observed that the existing market value of
one ton of marble is 10500 rupees when processed mechanically while
it is only two thousand rupees when mined through blasting. They
said that strategy working group (SWOG) has been introduced to give
a full fledged status of industry to stone development and a number
of model quarries have been established across the country. They
also described the achievements of SWOG in detail from Khuzdar
Baluchistan to Buner Swat and Chitral and said that it provided job
opportunities to thousands of jobless youth while imparted training
to hundreds of them. They added that the private sector is being
patronized and encouraged under SWOG and machinery for mechanical
mining and processing are leased out to the interested parties in
the private sector. Regarding the tremendous potential of stone
development in Chitral, they said that stretching over an area of
14850 square kilometers, about 95 percent of its area contains
marbles and granites but all it remains underutilized in the
absence of mining on scientific lines. They also stressed the need
of accelerating on the establishment of marble city in the district
to provide marketing facilities. Former nazim of Broze union
council Abdul Haq, president of miners association Qadir Shah also
