By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL: The residents of Shiekhandeh of Rumbur valley have
demanded of the government to take a stern notice of the illegal
cutting forest of the area by a contractor through a fake joint
forest management committee (JFMC). Addressing a press conference
here on the other day, the residents Abdus Saboor Qureishi, Abdul
Shakoor, Mehrabuddin, Saifullah Jan, Sher Wali and others alleged a
contractor Muhammad Yaqoob is illegally cutting the trees of the
forest which is already endangered. They said that the government
had decided to form JFMCs to oversee and manage the forest affairs
consisting of local people but in the formation of JFMC Rumbur, the
local people were ignored. They said that the local people
nominated the office-bearers and members of the committee by their
own and submitted to the local office of the department but to no
avail. They warned that the residents of the valley will put
resistance to the deforestation by the contractor if the concerned
authorities did not check the obnoxious practice.
