Chitrali hunted a Himalayan Ibex in the game reserve

CHITRAL: Prince Saif Ali of Gahirait Chitral has hunted a Himalayan ibex in the game reserve of Agram gol of Arkari valley the other day. The measure of the length of horns of the ibex was 50 inches which is said to be record in the history of ibex hunting in the district. The Chitrali prince is said to be the first Pakistani to purchase a hunting permit of ibex from the wildlife department and has successfully accomplished the hunting of the animals which is known for eluding even the consummate hunters. divisional forest officer of wildlife Chitral told chitraltimes.com that the animal had once been declared one of the endangered species in the area but now its population has been controlled. He said that for the conservation purpose, the local communities have been organized into village conservation committees (VCCs) and eighty percent of the permit fee goes to the concerned community. He said that in the hunting season each year, the department puts to sale a number of hunting permits in different game reserves of the district. The permit fee paid by Prince Saif is said to be 50 thousand rupees.

Local Bodies convention held

CHITRAL: In the local bodies convention held here on Tuesday, the outgoing nazims have warned the government that stiff resistance will be offered against their replacement by administrators. The speakers included zilla nazim Maghfirat Shah, tehsil nazim Sartaj Ahmed Khan and the leaders of different political parties Maulana Sher Aziz, Saeed Ahmed Khan, Al-haaj Khurshid Ali Khan, Maulana Balinnas and others. They criticized the provincial government for hatching conspiracy against the district government from the day one and creating hurdles for it for serving the people. The speakers said that the present system of local bodies had ensured the decentralization of power and had empowered the elected representatives of the people in real terms. They held the bureaucracy responsible for weakening the present system as it had relieved the poor people of their yoke. They demanded of President Asif Zardari and prime minister to revive the devolution of power plan in its original form and promulgate it which was tampered later on by certain elements in power for their own selfish interests. Hundreds of union nazims, councilors, leaders of political parties, civil society organizations participated the convention which last for more than six hours.
