Remains of 1700 BC discovered in Parwak Mastuj

CHITRAL: The directorate of archaeology and museum, Khyber-Pukhtoonkhwa has excavated ancient graves dating back to 17th century B.C. at Parwak Mastuj village, 100 kms in the north. Talking to the local newsmen at the excavation site here on Tuesday, field supervisor of the excavation team Zarawar Khan, team supervisor Fawad Khan and curator of Chitral Mir Hayat said that the new finding will lead the researchers to explore new facets and features of Aryan civilization. They said that the peculiarity of the findings is the presence of images of both men and animals curved on stones of large size. They added that the people were civilized to a greater degree and their settlements situated in the footsteps of hillock shows that they were using different means to make their lives comfortable. They said that scars found in the skulls of most of the dead showed that they were tortured to death. They added that the graves were in many ways different from the ones discovered in Gankorini of Singoor, Bumburate, Drosh and Parwak Payeen. Regarding the development of archaeological sites in the district, they said that the director of archaeology and museums Saleh Muhammad Khan is evincing keen interest and excavation will be carried out in more sites of their map. They said that to preserve the ancient treasures, museums will be set up in Booni, Drosh and Bumburate by their department. They said that Chitral is the paradise of archeology and its leverage can be used to exploit the fabulous potential of ecotourism in the area.

Shandur Festival 2010 from 7th to 9th July with more colorful events

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Sports, Culture & Tourism Syed Aqil Shah has said that Shandur Polo Festival will be held in more befitting manner from July 7 to 9 this year while President Asif Ali Zardari will be requested to attend the final of festival on July 9 as chief guest. This he said while presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for Shandur Festival at Qayyum Sports Stadium Peshawar on Tuesday. MD STC Muhammad Azam Khan and concerned authorities of Culture Department attended the meeting. Syed Aqil Shah informed that chief ministers, Governors of the four provinces of the country as well as ambassadors of different countries would be requested to attend the festival. He said PIA would run additional flights from Peshawar and Islamabad on the occasion while roads from Chitral to Malakand and from Malakand to Shandur would be kept open. He said a tented village would be established at Shandur while media team for the coverage of festival would be sent from STC Peshawar. Syed Aqil Shah said being an international event, the tourists of the country and abroad await the festival eagerly every year. He said responsibility of holding the Shandur festival would be given to a private company. He said federal minister for Culture Pir Aftab Shah Gillani and Sindh Cultural minister Sasi Paleejo have been contacted to attend the festival. Syed Aqil Shah said a band of musicians would come from Punjab while besides polio match, magic Show, game of musical chairs for children, exhibition of para gliding , ultra light and hot air balloons would enthrall the spectators during the festival. He said STC was striving to hold a standard festival this time for which preparation are underway.
