Unexpected rain and snow fall paralyzed life in Yarkhoon valley

CHITRAL: The recent spate of rains in
upper portion of Chitral has reportedly paralyzed life in the
border area of Baroghil and its adjacent valley of Yarkhoon. The
residents of Baroghil area Yardost Khan and Rafi Shah told
chitraltimes.com here on Tuesday that the unexpected rains and
snowfall lashed Baroghil and Yarkhoon valleys which continued for
many days continuously. The residents of the area bordering the
Wakhan corridor of Afghanistan, lamented that the people are in
pitiable condition because the rain water and snow has badly
damaged their houses, crops and fruit trees. They said that the
people of the area are already deprived of basic amenities of life
and ekk out for their sustenance by raising livestock while the
untimely rains has jeopardized the very existence of the cattle
heads. “ The grazing fields are covered with snow avalanches while
the stockpile of dried fodder has already ran out”, they said and
apprehended that a large number of cattle heads may perish. The
border are is at a distance of 330 kilometres from the district
headquarters and the last sixty kilometers is without road
facility. They said that to reach Chitral city, they traveled three
days on feet and one day on jeep. They demanded emergency relief
measures for the besieged people of Baroghil. They recalled that in
such like situation in 1976, the federal government had rushed to
their rescue and had air dropped food for the people and fodder for
their animals. They said that the people of Yarkhoon valley are
equally affected by the extended rains and snowfall and have lost
their infrastructures of roads, transmission lines and irrigation
channels.

Education Deptt: notified the schedule of vacations
for educational institutions

PESHAWAR: The Elementary & Secondary Education Department
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with approval of the competent authority has
notified the schedule of vacations for the year 2010 – 2011 for all
the government and private schools with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Province. According to a notification issued here by E&S Education
Department KPK, all schools of plain areas in the province will
observe summer vacations from Ist June to 31st August 2010 (for
primary level) and 15th June to 31st August 2010 (for middle and
above level). While winter vacations will be observed from 25th
December 2010 to 31st December 2010. Similarly, all schools of
hilly / snowy areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will observe spring
vacations from Ist April to 7th April 2010 and summer vacations
from Ist July 2010 to 31st July 2010 while winter vacations will be
observed from 25th December 2010 to 28th February 2011.
