SEXUAL FRUSTRATION IN ADOLESCENT
By Mir Nawaz
In Pakistan the adolescent contribute one quarter of the
population. According to the survey in 2000 there are 27 millions
adolescent ages range from 15 to 24, and till 2020 this population
can expect to be increases dramatically to 44.6 million. They have
their own world having their own life style. Adolescent age is very
crucial in someone’s life facing many challenges, like change in
the body physic, depression, anxiety, and most importantly sexual
frustrations. Here I am going to discuss about the sexual
frustration which adolescent faces .In country like Pakistan it’s
very difficult to share sexual changes with some one because of
cultural and religious norms. Due to which he astray from real path
and mould themselves to malpractices which proved to be very
devastating in their later life. As they reached their age of
puberty ,hormonal changes takes place because of which an
adolescent feel changes in their body which seems to be very new
and astonishing for an adolescent .As a health care personnel I
came across a case ,16 year teenager was admitted in hospital ,he
was afraid to share his concern, when I asked him why he is so
afraid ,he told me “ he had a problem that he had nocturnal
emissions, and I feel very guilty , I don’t know is that normal or
not?”At that point at time I clear his queries and all those myths
which he had in his mind. Their other misconceptions include they
belief that masturbation causes impotence, physical illness, and
weakness. The misconceptions were more prevalent among respondents
from lower and middle-income groups. Their concerns were often
exploited by sex clinics, where they would pay thousands of rupees
for treatment for infertility prior to getting married, simply
because they had masturbated.3. Most of the adolescent don’t know
about their sexual health due to which they turned themselves in
mal practices, like masturbation, homosexuality, going to
prostitution, unsafe sex, pornography movies and nude pictures.
Like making relationship with sex workers, they are not aware of
use of contraceptive and other preventive measures during sex. This
practice put them on high risk of acquiring sexual transmitted
disease (STDs) e.g. HIV AIDS, Hepatitis C, Herpes, and lot more.
Data from a number of Asian countries reveal that 32 to 74 percent
of female sex workers are less than 25 years of age. Young men who
have sex with other men are also at a high risk of HIV infection.
Since they seem reluctant to discuss their concerns and questions
about their own sexuality with peers, it may be only when they
marry and experience intimacy with their wives that they can lay
some anxieties to rest.
When their sexual desires are unmeet ultimately they end up into
the depression, drug addiction, anxiety and low performance in
their academics. So it’s an intense need to look in to the world of
adolescent and find out the frustrations triggering factors and
deal accordingly think as per my experience sex education should be
incorporate in the curriculum at school level which talks about how
to take care of their sexual health like healthy coping mechanisms.
Parents can also play a pivotal role in saving their child from
sexual frustration, like they educate and prepare mentally him/her
before entering into adolescent phase, so they can’t get frustrated
when they experience body and hormonal changes in their early
adolescent phase.
