CHITRAL: A four member delegation from Chitral headed by
former Union Nazim Ayun Abdul Majeed returned from Afghanistan
after holding talk with Taliban commanders to release the kidnapped
Greek volunteer Engineer Athunasias Leurner. The delegation member
Wazir Zada Kalash said while talking to chitraltimes.com that talk
held in a cordial atmosphere with taliban leaders and it was move
friendly then before. The kidnapped Greek volunteer has kept bear
and look like a local Taliban. However, he is happy and healthy and
has been kept in an open place. The Taliban have already withdrawn
their demand of Rs.20 Million for the release of the Greek
national. According to a source the Government of Pakistan is ready
to release one Taliban leader Qari Rehmat Ullah for the release of
the Greek volunteer. But Taliban insist to release two of their
other fellows. The delegation is hopeful that the Greek volunteer
will be freed soon and hectic negotiations are going on in this
regards. It is pertinent to mention here that Greek volunteer was
kidnapped in Sep 2009 by unknown masked men from Kalash valley

Chitral Border Police is being strengthened..... DCO

CHITRAL: District coordination officer Chitral Rahmatullah
Wazir said that Chitral is a sensitive district from strategic
point of view which has a lengthy border of 380 km of porous border
with Afghanistan and to effective check and monitor the cross
border mobilization, district border police is being strengthened
both in terms of men and material. Addressing on the occasion of
badge installation ceremony for the newly promoted junior officers
of the border police, he said that the provincial government has
attached great importance with the force and has approved its
regular service structure in the history of the force. He said that
the force is being reorganized on modern lines to cope with the new
challenges emerging in the aftermath of war on terror. Mr. Wazir
said that the strength of the force is being enhanced to deploy to
establish posts in all the 39 passes connecting Afghanistan which
were unmanned in the past giving opportunity to the illegal
entrants. He said that border police lines will be established in
the district headquarters while fortresses will be erected in all
the passes and important places of the district for the force
personnel. He assured the gathering that much is in the store of
the provincial government for the upgradation of the force due to
its vital importance. On this occasion, he pinned the badges of the
rank of subedar major on the shoulder of Maqbool Ali and subedar to
Abdur Razaq, Sardar Hussain and Nasirullah.

Chitral Police seized 151 Liters of local Liquor

CHITRAL: Chitral Police foiled an attempt of smuggling a
large quantity of liquor from Kalash valley to Chitral city in the
late hours of Friday and recovered 151 litres of liquor which is
said to be largest quantity of liquor ever halted in a single
occasion. Sub-divisional police officer Shamsur Rahman told the
local media here on Saturday that the SHO of Chitral police station
Nisar Ahmed and his staff raided the house of a notorious smuggler
Mujeebur Rahman of Orghoch village and recovered the liquor. He
said that 2 kg of charas was also recovered while the accused made
good his escape in the darkness of night. He said that one of the
workers of the smuggler Ziaur Rahman has been arrested. He said
that the DPO Muhammad Jaffar Khan has announced cash reward and
commendation certificates for the raiding party of the police which
also included lady constables.
