Unveil the Secrets of Good Memory

The more a man can forget, the greater the number of metamorphoses which his life can undergo, the more he can remember the more divine his life becomes. (Kierkegaard). I still remember those days when I was young and very famous among my classmates as most of the times they saw me standing outside of the class for different reasons like sometimes not bringing my books or my stationary box etc. but I always took it very proudly as it made me the ultimate hero of my class. When I went in college, I used to forget the birthdays of my friends and get a big blow on my face in return. This journey even continued when I entered in my university life and how can I forget the day when I invited all my colleagues and my Teacher for the celebration of my first Scholarship at my second home, “our luxurious cafe”. I checked everything and I was glad as everything was going fine but there is always a climax of the story which took place when we went to the counter to pay the bill, I humbly took out my wallet and guess what there was no money in my wallet as I forgot to refill it with loads of money. This was the most memorable yet the most embarrassing moment I have ever come across in my whole life. Everyone has nuisance remembering things occasionally. Sometimes we are so lost that we forget the name of the person we just met and then get embarrassed or time to time we pledge ourselves that this time I will not overlook to wish my nearest and dearest ones however we fail to memorize that we have even made a swear. Yes I am pretty sure that you too are nodding your head and giggling on your selves that you have at last find a companion to share your feelings.

God has blessed every human being with the brains. Our brain is like a supercomputer which outshines all other technology globally. This spectacular piece of equipment is ready to digest the simple yet the most complex things of our life. Whatever we have heard or seen is stored in the bank and whenever we want to cherish our sweet memories it gets retrieved instantly. The powerhouse of our body is responsible for the quick retrieval of our pleasant recollections. Its name is Hippocampus. It is the memory control system of our brain. Accordding to Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy memory is a set of cognitive capacity of a individual to retain information and recreate past memories in present.
Most of us have complexity in recalling things right at the moment when we are in extreme need .This happens because we don’t summon up the learned information for years and years and when the time gets nearer, we immediately desire to have it on our tips which at times seems out of the question nevertheless this is not so complicated. Let’s make it very clear through an example. Our brain is just like athlete who strives hard so as to win the race. The proverb “practice makes a man perfect” suits best here. In order to refresh our brains we should inculcate some smart tips and tricks in our lifestyle to achieve the beauty of cherishing past recollections into our present.

Some easy and nice to follow tips in everyday life are:

(1) Think positive: we should mentally prepare our self for the success and not the failure. We should not lose hope before even making an attempt. We should refrain from the pessimistic thoughts such as “I have a bad memory” or “I will forget” because when we think negative we unconsciously close the doors of success.

(2) Learn with fun: most of us may find learning as a boring process however one should try and find out different ways of learning. It does not matter how you learn but what matters most is how efficient learner you are. For me history was the most boring subject and I could hardly bear one hour class. To make us awake and lively, our teacher made us play the character of those great heroes and made it mandatory for us to dress up in the same manner. We get so involved that we started calling each other with our new names and forget the real ones.

(3) Good night sleep: having a good sleep at night helps our brain to get relaxed and prepare for the upcoming challenges of life. It is necessary to have at least 6 to 8 hours of quality sleep at night to get ourselves fresh and dynamic. (4)Exercise daily: exercise increases the oxygen and nutrients in blood to our brain which speeds up the amount of work done by it. A healthy body has a healthy mind.

(5) Eat healthy: now a day’s people are most interested in eating fast food like burgers, French fries and pizzas but these do not count as healthy meals. We should maintain a balanced diet in our routine and eat foods which are rich in vitamins and minerals. My grandmother always used to give me 7 pieces of nuts daily at bedtime to improve my memory . Last but not the least we should (6) Play games like jigsaw puzzles and chess to sharpen our memory. Let me give you an exciting game to judge your memory where you stand. There are 7 things on the table: red pen, blue ink pot, note book, silver watch, golden earrings, purple shirt and brown jeans. You are given 60 seconds to look it once and then write the name of above listed things on a piece of paper. Do not get demotivated on your first attempt. Just try, try and try!!
Finally memory is the irreplaceable experience of an individual. It is the most valuable and priceless asset which provides immense pleasure whenever retrieved. Lapses in the memory are quite usual but at times it results in frustration and affects our relationships with each other. Therefore everyone should optimize the maximum storage of brain and get the most out of it.
