Production Of Low-Priced Electricity In Chitral District.
My dear Bilal Qurishi!
I myself and on behalf of the people of Chitral would like to thank
you for your letter published on chitraltimes.com and your interest
in the development of the backward and landlocked district and your
services will be remembered for long long time in the history of
Chitral. We highly appreciate and acknowledge your offer and hope
that you and people like you will continue the same with the same
zeal and enthusiasms. After Lawari Rail Tunnel, the second major
issue of the district is shortage of electricity. Almighty Allah
has bestowed the area with natural resource including water
resources. But these resources have not been explored or utilized
due to one or other reasons. Lack of financial resources and long
term policies on the part of the government are the main causes in
the not exploration of these hidden resources.
The present District Government has been trying to highlight the
issue in every possible forum in order to explore these hidden and
God gifted resources for the last three & half years but no
positive results haven been achieved so far. It is worth to mention
here that in the absence of the other options, the forests of the
district are being used in a very large scale and if it has been
used in the same manner for coming 3-4 years than the area will
loss all the precious trees including deodar. The large scale
deforestation has lead to climatic changes and causes floods,
avalanches and glaciers outburst. Due to manmade activities two
villages in the district namely Sonoghore and Chunj had met
catastrophic which displaced the whole population of these
villages. It is first time from the last fifty years that Chitral
district did not receive snowfall which also indicate a sign of
global warming.
The Hydel Power Station Chitral which feeds Town area of Chitral
was constructed in 1974 with maximum generating capacity of 1.00
MW, its capacity can be increased to 4.00 MW and in this connection
necessary feasibility report has already been prepared. Proper
Chitral consists of 4 Union Councils and present demand is more
than 4 MW and thus this power house can full fill the over all
demand of the Town area if necessary up gradation has been carried
out. GTZ in collaboration with SHYDO has carried out detail survey
for potential areas and identified the attached list feasible for
hydel power projects in Chitral.
You are therefore, requested that if your good self want to visit
Chitral to inspect the sites that TMA Chitral will extend every
kind of support.
Looking forward for your early response.
Regards.
Sartaj Ahmad Khan
Tehsil Nazim, Chitral.
