Govt: Girls College Booni, running without
teaching staff By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL: The newly established government girls degree
college at Booni Chitral is being run without teaching staff and
the severity of the problem can be gauged from the fact that for
seven hundred students there are only three faculty members.
Talking to chitraltimes.com here on Saturday, the parents of the
students of the college apprehended the wastage of the precious
time of their daughters due to the acute shortage of teaching
staff. The building of the college and its hostel had been
completed last year but teaching staff is yet to be provided while
classes of first and third year both for humanities and science
groups have started this year. The parents said that as there was
no other girls college in the upper Chitral, more than seven
hundred parents admitted their daughters in the college with great
enthusiasm. They said that their hopes have now dashed to the
ground because their daughters are returning home without being
taught for want of teachers. They added that poverty is rampant in
the area and very few people can afford to send their daughters to
other areas and it is a pity that the students of upper Chitral
were denied in the college of Chitral city on the ground that a
college has been opened for them in Booni. expressing their deep
anguish, they said that the first four months of the academic year
have already gone without teachers while the college will be closed
by next week for two months on account of winter vacations while
examination of intermediate classes will start from 15th April
next. The parents said that there is only one month left for
covering the whole syllabus of first year which is not possible
practically. They criticized the elected representatives of the
area for their indifference towards the problem and alleged that
they did not make any effort to fill the vacant posts of lecturers
in the college.
