PIA flights operated after eight days cancellation

CHITRAL: PIA flights to Chitral from Islamabad and Peshawar operated on Monday after eight days which cancelled due to inclement weather in Chitral. The closure of Lowari top road due to heavy snowfall has put the people of Chitral in hardships of different dimensions but the decision of the federal government to open the unfinished Lowari tunnel for two hours daily has mitigated the sufferings, the people said. The complained that the government has let loose the transporters to fleece the local people who have enhanced the fares both passengers and the goods. They said that due to the Lowari tunnel, the length of journey through the Lowari top has curtailed by two hours but the fares have been increased by more than forty percent causing the prices of essential commodities to overshoot.

Local Support Organization(LSOs) role lauded

CHITRAL: The regional programme manager of Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) Chitral Engineer Sardar Ayub has said that local support organizations (LSOs) play like arteries in the rural development of Chitral district in sectors of life on the basis of community participation. Addressing the concluding ceremony of a three-day workshop on ‘change management’ for the managers of LSOs in Chitral here on Monday, he said that the organizations have been organized on union council level and have been strengthened both in terms of training and resources. He said that through the participatory approach of development, the rural communities have been enabled to manage and mobilize their local resources and potential for their problems. Mr. Ayub said that the development workers must possess the knowledge of how to enable the rural people to keep pace with the fast changing world and solve the problems that cropped up as a result. He said that the routinely tedious officialdom must be evaded to create ease for the populace as the present age needs quick response for each problem. Expressing his satisfaction over the functioning and efficiency of the development networks in the district, he claimed that it was AKRSP which introduced the idea of mass participation in development process in 1983. He said that transparency is the main characteristic of this process which has made it acceptable to all segments of the society. The former regional programme manager Miraj Khan and social organizers Muhammad Karam, Hussain Ahmed and other also spoke on the occasion to highlight the course on change management. The managers and members of the executive committees of more than twenty LSOs participated in the workshop.
