This refers to the News July 31, 2009 recommending Chitral Shikashim Tajikistan Highway via Durah Pass for preparation of feasibility report by NHA. Based on past mails giving facts and figures on the said topic some very important points need to be considered once again before its finalization. The points are:-

Chitral-Shikashim Highway via Durah Pass.                                                  

1. Chitral-Shikashim via Durah Pass  200 km (118 in Afghanistan & 82 in Pakistan). 

2. Chitral-Shikashim via Durah Pass has to go through about 5 km tunnel to be built.

3. Durah Pass height is 4550 meter.

4. Chitral Durah Pass road from Seenlasht near Chitral to Durah Pass remains always under threat of flood, glacier and land sliding.

5.  Chitral Durah Pass Highway shall benefit to 52% of Population.

Chitral - Shikashim via Broghel Pass.

1. Chitral-Shikashim via Broghel Pass 360 km   100 in Afghanistan 260 in Pakistan.

2. Chitral-Shikashim via Broghel Pass has no tunnel and no glacier

3. Broghel Pass height is 3841 meters.

4. Chitral-Broghel Pass road remains always in operation, Truckable road 87 km (Chitral to Booni) is black topped & all-weather, another 63 km (Booni to Brep) is under construction for blacktopping. Brep to Kishmanja (90 km) is all-weather jeep able road.

5. Need is for construction of 20 km road from Kishmanja to Broghel Pass and blacktopping of 110 km (Brep to  Broghel Pass).

6. Broghel Pass to Shikashim (100 km) inside Wakhan corridor, the most peaceful and

safest border village has also alweather shingle truckable road.

 7. Chitral-Shikashim Highway via Broghel Pass can also be used as the safest alternate highway for China through Shandur Pass and Gilgit.

9.  Chitral Broghel Pass Shikashum Highway shall benefit about

10. Chitral Broghel Shikashum Highway shall be benefiting about 88% of population as compared to 52% by Chitral Durah Shikashum Highway.

Ministry of Communication, specially NHA officials should review its study based on its safety, security, weather and political threat. The highway must be made safe in every respect for travellers.
