Gilgit-Baltistan and MQM
Open letter to Mr. Altaf Hussain
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed online newspaper, I would like to pass this
open letter to Mr. Altaf Hussain (self exiled leader of Muhajir
Qaomi Moment (MQM).
First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and
felicitation to you and your party (MQM) for participating in the
upcoming election in Northern Areas of Pakistan.
As a long time habitant of the great city of Pakistan (Karachi) and
a student of the re-known University (Karachi University) of my
beloved country, I want to draw your kind attention to some of the
facts and figures experiences regarding MQM during my student life
in Karachi. I also as a student had experienced the unforgettable
and memorable moments and observations that Muhajir Qaomi Moment (MQM)
is still repeating in their political camp from their invention.
This is absolutely true and open policy of MQM, especially
regarding the admissions in an educational institution, that only
holding of Karachi domicile student are eligible to get an
admission in any educational institution in Karachi. I believe you
yourself have said a numerous times in your different political
gathering and telephonic speeches, that government should stop
students form other parts of the country to come to Karachi for
educational purposes.
During the admission process in an educational institution in
Karachi, Muhajir Student Organization (MSO) are openly bullying and
threatening the heads of different departments not to give
admission to any non Urdu speaking student.
As past experience speaks, it was 1984 when I applied for my BA at
Sindh Muslim College at Burns Road Karachi, (which is a complete
Urdu speak locality). I am extremely thankful to Mr. Khoja,
advocate of Reshun from the bottom of my heart who helped me get
through the admission process into the college. When he was filling
up the form, the MSO came to him and said in a very rude manner “No
one is eligible to get an admission unless they are a Karachi
domicile holder”. This was a horrible rule in every college and
university in Karachi. Mr. Khoja was an honoured student of that
college, so due to his personal relationship with the principle, I
was able to get admission into the college.
I believe that you are still saying and arguing that educational
institutions are not enough even for our own community (Muhajir) in
Karachi. Why is the government not stopping the flood of the people
that come to Karachi for education and other purposes? Karachi is
build for only Urdu speaking people said by Altaf Hussain.
Furthermore, you’re saying that Karachi is for Paanshahi and for
Churidar Pajamas. So, Jobs are only for Karachities, not for
Pathans, Balochis, Sindhis or Punjabis. Mr. Hussain, if you
sincerely look at the history, these roads of Karachi, the big high
rise buildings, the Karachi Sea Pot and other markets can openly
let you know who have a hand in making them what they are right
now. So, my point in this part of my article is that, Balochis,
Pathans and Punjabis have a huge part in building the city of
Karachi, In other words, you should be thankful and give them their
due credit to those who had come from outside Karachi and build the
city.
It was in 1980 – 1999, when MQM was known as a kidnapper that was
allegedly involved in the terrorist activities and held torture
cells and also was an ethnic organization. 25,000 non Muhajir had
been killed during Suhrab Ghoat Operation.
These are not just obligation and made up stories but are facts and
figure. It will be a surprise change for you and your party to come
out from Muhajiriyat and go to the far flung and remote areas of
Northern Pakistan to include your voices in the elections. Now,
what about these serious questions that are linked with your past
leadership such as: Where do you hide your Muhajir identity? Where
do your hide your only Karachi domicile issue? How can your
convince those educated people of Northern Areas (NAs) who once
were hunted by your Sub Student Organization (MSO) in different
educational institutions in Karachi during their studies?
Our thinking, opinions and views are still and will be always
positive like before that any Pakistani regardless of language or
culture and gender can go anywhere in Pakistan and get education in
any institution, do business and take part in any political
processes in a good and productive manner. If you have the right to
participate in NAs election (which you have) then any non Urdu
speaking students also have the right to get admission in any
educational institutions in Karachi (on the basis on their
qualification, not on domicile or a poor labour of Chitral, Chilas,
Ziarat, Sargodah, Kashmir and Miranshah also have the right to go
to Karachi and build a career).
If you agree to the point set above, please do a telephonic press
conference regarding these important issues and points and clear
your party position especially for Karachi domicile issue or
release a press letter to national newspapers of Pakistan. Thank
You
Sincerely,
Gul Jee
