Residents of Sheshi Koh reiterated their pledge to help retain peace

CHITRAL: In the grand peace jirga of Sheshi Koh valley held here on Tuesday, the residents of the valley expressed their firm determination and resolve to extend unflinching cooperation to the government to retain peace in the area and resist infiltration from the adjacent districts of Swat and Dir. Attended by district nazim Maghfirat Shah, DCO Mutasim Billah Shah, DPO Muhammad Saleem Marwat, the jirga was convened to seek the help of the people of the valley which is adjacent to Swat and Dir districts. The elites of the valley reiterated their support to the government against the infiltrators but demanded of the government to fulfill its duties by restoring the post of district border force, strengthening the police force in terms of men and material by providing it transport and wireless system. The district nazim asked the residents to form peace committee on union council level and hold its periodical weekly meeting to review the situation of security in the valley. the DCO and DPO assured the people of their performing their duties. The union nazim Sohrab Khan also put forward a number of proposals to check the possible infiltration of the militants. The local elites Moulana Fazal Azeem, Haji Ayub, Sher Muhammad Khan, Sarfaraz Shah and others also spoke on the occasion.

Work on Lowari rail tunnel stopped

CHITRAL: Work on the Lowari rail tunnel has been stopped by the National Highway Authority (NHA) on Tuesday due to the security reason prevailing in Malakand division. District nazim Maghfirat Shah confirmed the news  and criticized the NHA high-ups for stopping the work despite assurance of fool-proof security to the workers. He said that the conditions are ideally peaceful in Chitral and there was no immediate threats to the workers on Chitral side where work was in progress. he said that the unwarranted step of stopping the work has sent wave of disappointment across the valley. Mr. Shah has demanded of the federal government to resume work on the project.
