Polio walk held in Chitral

CHITRAL: A walk was arranged here Saturday by the health
department to raise awareness about polio to enlist the support of
the public in the campaign against the deadly disease. Minister of
population welfare Saleem Khan, district nazim Maghfirat Shah, MNA
Shahzada Mohyuddin, EDO health Dr. Sher Qayum lead the walk which
started from Chew Bridge and terminated at Town hall. Addressing
the participants on the occasion, the speakers said that the people
must extend all out support to the health department to wipe out
polio from the district.
Meanwhile, a ceremony was held in government postgraduate commerce
college to bid farewell to the principal of the college Professor
Abdul Hameed Khan who was retired from the service on Saturday.
Provincial minister of population welfare Saleem Khan was chief
guest on the occasion. Addressing on the occasion, he announced to
provide forty number of latest model of computers for the computer
laboratory of the college. He also promised the students to solve
the problems of the college which affected their academic progress.
The speakers eulogized the services of the retiring principal for
the college for the last one decade.

CHITRAL: Provincial minister of population welfare Saleem
Khan has said that the ideal situation of peace and tranquility in
the district will be maintained at any cost for which all the
strata of the society are playing their roles. Addressing ‘meet the
press’ programme here on Friday at Chitral press club, he said that
there is a complete communal harmony in the district and the people
are conscious to the fact that peace and prosperity is not possible
without peace. He claimed that merit has been ensured by the
provincial government to keep the people contended and no injustice
is done to any one. He said that work on the second phase of the
Lowari rail tunnel project is in full swing despite the financial
crunch while a number of mega projects have been shelved in other
parts of the country. He said that Pakistan will be linked to the
Central Asian republics via Chitral and with it, a new era of
progress and development will dawn on the area. Mr. Khan said that
the PPP government has also decided to carry on the Golen Gol hydro
project with generation capacity of 107 mega watt while the federal
government is also planning to exploit the vast hydro power
potentials in the district and private investors will also be drawn
to the area for the purpose. He said that the sectors of health and
education are at the top of his agenda and all his efforts are
directed to bring about improvement there. He said that the vacant
posts of district specialists in the DHQ hospital and medical
officers in the basic health units of the district to provide
health facilities to the people. the minister alleged mass scale
bungling in the distribution of Benazir income support programme (BISP)
cards and announced to hold inquiry into the scam so that the
really needy women could be benefited. He said that the real aim of
BISP was to provide sources of subsistence to the poor and the
indigent in the society in consonance with the vision of the slain
leader of the party and no one will be allowed to render the
programme a failure.
