Terich's Residents want protection
By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL: The residents of Surwakht Terich village Mutawali
Khan and Mehrabuddin have appealed to the government to protect
their life, honour and property against the influential persons of
the village who are constantly intimidating them and they feel
themselves and their children entirely insecure. Addressing a press
conference here on Friday, they named Sher Alam, Shahid Alam,
Mehboob Alam, Amiruddin, Shahzad Zareen and others of the village
who have rendered a hell for us. They said that two years ago, they
had attacked the religious seminary situated in the village to
evacuate it by force when the female students were inside its
building and we came to the rescue of the students. They said that
this act of us has infuriated them beyond measure and since then we
are being persecuted by them while now they are even demanding
‘tax’ from us in lieu of safety to our lives and property. The
residents said that the seminary is established in the village
since 1980 erected in a piece of land donated by one Omara Khan of
the village but the opponents want the management to evacuate the
building and leave the village. They implored that the opponents
wield great influence and power in the village and the very safety
and security of our families is at high stake while over the last
couple of days, they are threatening us by telephone calls and have
sent us written warnings. They demanded of the chief minister and
inspector general of police to rush to their rescue and bring to
book the influential who want to take law into their hands.
