Zilla council passes revised budget

CHITRAL: Through a unanimously passed resolution here on
Thursday, the zilla council has demanded of the government to
establish check posts of district border force and Chitral police
in all the seven passes of Sheshi Koh valley which connects Chitral
with the districts of Swat and Dir. Presented by Sohrab Khan, nazim
representing the union council Sheshi Koh, the resolution said that
the valley is very sensitive having border area stretching over 39
kilometres. The resolution demanded restoration of the district
border force check post and equipping the force with sophisticated
arms to check the infiltrators effectively. The government was also
demanded to increase the strength of Chitral police check post in
the area and provide them with all necessities including transport,
wireless, telephone and improved weapons. Presided over by convener
Sultan Shah, the house members expressed their proposals to keep
peace and order in the district and said that the infiltration of
outsiders from the other border areas of Arandu, Lowari Top and
Baroghil should be effectively checked before it is not too late.
The house took up the alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of
funds in different departments pointed out by different members and
the convener constituted committees to scrutinize the facts.
Amirullah Khan of Charun union council alleged that a hefty amount
of 21.93 million rupees were utilized in the education department
for repairs of school buildings, purchase of furniture and others
but without any tangible improvement. The matter was referred to
the committee by the convener. Syed Imtiaz Jan of Ashrait union
council pointed towards the dilapidated condition of the roads
which had been blacktopped by the works and services department
just a few months ago. A committee was constituted to conduct
inquiry against the department for collusion with the contractors
for substandard construction of the roads. Sher Aziz Baig from Khot
union council said that the lady teachers in the government girls
middle school are not attending their duties for the last one year
and the parents have decided to withdraw their daughters from the
school en bloc and have given the deadline of 10th May. He demanded
stern action against the officers of education department for their
negligence of duty which has adversely affected the academic
progress of the students. The department of food was also
criticized for the allegedly rampant corruption. Earlier, the house
passed the revised budget of the district government for the
remaining fiscal year with small alterations which was presented in
the house on Wednesday by the district nazim.
