One person died of electrocution in Booni

CHITRAL: One person Ziaur Rehman died by electrocution at Booni here on Thursday when he was traveling in an open jeep loaded with steel water pipes. The eye-witness said that the water pipes were touched by the high tension transmission lines of electricity and the person died on the spot. The residents of Booni have demanded of the government to initiate action against the small hydel development organization (SHYDO) officials in Reshun hydel power station whose sheer negligence of duty has caused the loss of a precious life. They said the SHYDO officials were approached by them time and again to raise the transmission lines to a safe height but no attention was heeded. They said that the low-lying and loose high tension wires of electricity are constant source of danger to the lives of the people of Booni.

C&W Department eulogized

CHITRAL: Former MPA from Chitral and district president of PML-Q Saeed Ahmed Khan has eulogized the contribution of works and services (W&S) department for the development of road and building infrastructure in the district and urged its officials to work with dedication and zeal. Addressing a farewell party given to a retiring official of the department Shah Mohammad Laal here on Thursday, he said a large chunk of the development funds is utilized through this department which needs that the officials of the department should show their integrity and honesty to execute the public works. The function was attended by deputy director of W&S department Engineer Nazir Ahmed Khan, divisional accounts officer of irrigation department Abdus Salam, union nazim Amirullah Khan and others. The other speakers Engineer Nazir Ahmed Khan, Altaf Hussain Khayab, Sadar Azam and others hailed the services of the retiring official and said that during his 35 years long service in the department earned fame and good name due to his exemplary efficiency and honesty.

World water day held

CHITRAL: A walk was organized by Rural Water Supply and Sanitation programme (RWSSP) here in Booni to highlight the importance of pure drinking water and cleanliness for healthy society. Led by district coordinator of RWSSP Bahar Ahmed, medical superintendent of Aga Khan Health Centre Booni Dr. Abdul Karim and development activist Sardar Hussain, the walk started from Aga Khan Medical center and terminated at Booni Chowk. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abdul Karim underlined the importance of pure drinking water and said that about 80 percent human diseases are caused by contaminated water. He stressed on the people to play their due role both individually and collectively for the cleanliness of water courses which are the main sources of drinking water. He said that only the collective thinking and their work in unison for clean environment can solve the problem of cleanliness. Speaking on the occasion, Bahar Ahmed enumerated the achievements of RWSSP to provide infrastructure and creating awareness among the people about sanitation and hygiene. He said that awareness programme is also being launched in the schools across the district. Sardar Hussain and Miraj Hussain also addressed on the occasion and warned that the sale of polluted commodities of daily consumption should be stopped and demanded of the government to come hard on such traders who mint money at the very price of the health of people.
