Jashn-e-Chitral cancelled due to tense situation in Swat

CHITRAL: Jashn-e-Chitral has been cancelled due to the tense situation prevalent in the neighboring districts of Chitral which was scheduled to commence from October 12, district nazim Maghfirat Shah told chitraltimes.com here on Wednesday. He said that the provincial department of tourism had decided to hold the fair in order to attract large number of tourists to the area in which chief minister was to participate in its concluding ceremony. He said that in the meeting presided over by him on Wednesday, the heads of different political parties participated and it was unanimously decided that it was not appropriate time to make jubilations in the district when the situation in the neighboring districts is going from bad to worst. He said that he will formally ask the provincial government regarding the decision of the meeting to declare its cancellation. He said that the visit of the chief minister to the district will take place as per schedule and all the political parties for which they have agreed will give him a warm welcome. Mr. Shah said that the chief minister had already accepted the request of the district government for his visit different valleys of the district to apprise himself of the problems faced by their inhabitants. He said that the fair used to be an annual feature in 1970s, which was organized by the government to attract tourists, but it was abandoned while the incumbent provincial government had taken it again on earnest basis. He appreciated the efforts of the provincial government for its efforts of promoting tourism in the district but the fair was not called for.
