By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL: Provincial minister of population welfare Saleem
Khan has said that the period of political interference in
education department is over and from now onward only merit will
reign supreme so that the falling standard of education could be
contained. He was addressing the concluding ceremony of two-week
workshop for primary teachers under the auspices of curriculum
development bureau of education department and Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA) here on Friday. He said
that no political influence could be employed in the transfers and
postings of education department and no teacher will be spared who
showed laxity in performing his or her duties. He said that to
raise the standard of education and fight the ignorance in the
society, the teachers must be imbibed with missionary zeal and
dedicate themselves to the profession instead of making it merely a
source of earning livelihood. Mr. Khan warned that the teachers who
do not attend their schools regularly will be dealt with an iron
hand and no excuse of any kind will be tolerated. He advised the
teachers to seek jobs in any departments who are not earnest in the
teaching profession because education is the foundation stone of
any nation on which its future depends. He said that the government
is providing free books to the students and scholarships to the
female students which will help boost up education and enhance
enrolment in the schools. DCO Chitral Mutasim Billah Shah ,EDO

Abdul Kabir also spoke on the occasion.
