Any change in Lowari tunnel project opposed
By Zahiruddin
CHITRAL, July 28: The residents of Chitral have expressed their
determination that no change in the design of Lowari tunnel or any
delay will be tolerated and warned of protest strikes if any one
tried to do so. Addressing a crowded press conference here on
Monday, former MNA Moulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, President of
Traders union Habib Hussain Mughal, Sifat Zarin district president
of PML-N, human rights activist Niaz Ahmed advocate, Moulana Khalil
Ahmed and others said that the Lowari tunnel project is of immense
importance for the people of Chitral and they will never compromise
on this at any cost. They alleged that there is a certain lobby in
Chitral who work against the project and raise doubts about the
viability of the project. They further alleged that the incumbent
MNA from Chitral Shahzada Mohyuddin is openly opposing the project
to gain his personal ends and the recent rumours about change in
the design of the tunnel is a part of the game played by such
elements. They said that no power in this stage of the project can
dare to stop or bring about change in it as the people will rise in
revolt which will go beyond the control of the government. They
said that the people of Chitral have long been waiting for the
realization of the ‘dream of Lowari tunnel’ and they will shrink
from no sacrifice to this. They expressed their hope that the first
phase of the project will be completed by the month of November
this year and the people of Chitral will make jubilations on this
occasion. They demanded of the government to initiate work on
Tajikistan-Chitral road after the completion of Lowari tunnel.
