District Nazim promises smooth power supply

CHITRAL: District nazim Chitral Maghfirat Shah has said that
the problem of shortage of electricity to Chitral city and its
outskirt has been solved for the time being and the residents will
get rid of frequent and prolonged load shedding. Addressing a
mammoth gathering of people on the occasion of final match of
district foot ball tournament here on Thursday, he said that due to
the hectic and tireless efforts of the district government, an
agreement has been reached at between PESCO and small hydel
development organization (SHYDO) according to which the city will
be provided electricity from the Reshun hydel power station. He
said that the district government feels regrets for the miseries of
the people due to the acute power shortage. He said that the
residents of Chitral will get incessant power supply. Regarding the
promotion of sports and youth activities in the district, he said
that a number of schemes are in the anvil which will provide
creative and healthy opportunities to the youth. Tehisl nazim
Sartaj Ahmed Khan announced 0.5 million rupees for special repair
of the football ground and assured the sportsmen of his all out
support. President of district football association Sajjad Ahmed
Khan and Mohammad Hakim Khan advocate also spoke on the occasion of
prize distribution ceremony of the tournament. The final match of
the tournament Mughal –XI of Mughlandeh beat the Jang Bazaar team
by 3 to zero goals. Shahriyar Ali Shah of Mughal-XI was declared
man of the match who scored two goals.

Flood plays havoc in Damil area

CHITRAL: Nazim of union council Arandu Sher Mohammad has
asked the provincial government for special package for the Damil
area of his union council where irrigation channels, water supply
schemes and link roads have been washed away by the torrential
rains. Talking to Dawn here on Thursday, he said that due to the
rains, the crops of maize and rice standing on hundreds of acres of
land have been destroyed which has adversely affected the economy
of the already poverty-stricken people of the remote area. He said
that the 21-kms long link road from Damil Nisar to Kamsi has been
washed away by the flood and vehicular traffic has been suspended
creating tremendous problems for the residents. He said that pure
drinking water is also not available in the area because a number
of water supply schemes have been washed away. The nazim further
said that the crops which have been saved from the flood are also
endangered due to non-availability of water as all the water
channels have been washed away. He demanded of the government to
announce special grants for the rehabilitation of the
infrastructure.
