Personality Types
By Sana Rajani
Personality is an important part of one’s self. It reflects our
inner self to other’s and helps in building up an impression on
others. Every one has their own traits and characteristics that
make them different from people around them. As man is a social
being and has to interact and deal with people living around them.
Thus it is important for us to know about different types of
personality, the traits and characteristics that others possess in
order to deal with them in an effective manner.
Introduction
It’s a famous quote that “Its beauty that captures your
attention; personality which captures your heart”. It’s our
personality which reflects who we actually are. Personality can be
defined as “Personality is made up of the characteristics patterns
of thoughts, feelings, and behavior that make a person unique”
(Kendra Van Wagner). Personality arises from within the individual
and remains fairly consistent throughout the life. Jung’s theory of
Psychological types says that we are all different in fundamental
ways. One’s ability to process different information and act
accordingly is limited by their personality type. There are four
basic types of personality which are represented by animal
characters i.e. Artisan (Fox), Guardian (Beaver), Idealistic
(Dolphin) and Rational (Owl).
Artisan
First type of personality is known as Artisan which is also
represented as Fox personality. The people having this type of
personality tend to be fun-loving, are very optimistic, realistic,
and focused on their goals. They are very unconventional, bold, and
spontaneous. They acknowledge (prize) freedom, and dream of
mastering action skills. They can be easily excited and are very
impulsive, adaptable and competitive. They have exceptionally keen
senses and they love to work with their hands all the time. They
love variety and are always seeking for adventure in their lives.
They strongly resist of being tied or bound, infact they want to be
free in their lives in whatever they want to do. Their philosophy
of life is that today must be enjoyed, for tomorrow never comes.
Guardian
Second type of personality is known as Guardian which is also
represented as Beaver personality. The people having this type of
personality tend to be dutiful, cautious, humble, and focused on
credentials and traditions. They are very loyal citizens, trust
their authorities very much and are very dedicatedly involved in
serving social institutions and social groups. They prize
gratitude, and dream of meting out justice. They are very
dependable, helpful, responsible, practical and hard-working
people. They have lots fun with their family and friends but on the
other hand they are very serious about their duties and
responsibilities. They work very steadily and believe in discipline
and team works for the outcomes. They are very particular about
their schedules and are very cautious about change. Their
philosophy of life is better to go slowly, and look before you
leap.
Idealistic
Third type of personality is known as Idealistic which is also
represented as Dolphin personality. The people having this type of
personality tends to be giving, trusting, spiritual, and they are
focused on personal journeys and human potentials. They are very
enthusiastic, they trust their intuition, seek their true self, and
dream of attaining wisdom. They prize meaningful relationships, and
are very loving, kindhearted people. When ever they seek for any
information they want it to be very authentic. They are
passionately concerned about their personal growth and development.
They seek for knowledge and always want to improve themselves more.
They are always filled with love and good will for others. They are
very emotional persons and they inspire others by their helping
nature. Their philosophy of life is giving of one's self to help
others.
Rational
Fourthand the last type of personality is known as Rational
which is also represented as Owl personality. The people having
this type of personality tends to be pragmatic, skeptical,
self-contained, and focused on problem-solving and systems
analysis. They are very ingenious, independent, and even-tempered.
They have a strong will; they trust logic, yearn for achievement
and seek knowledge. They prize technology, and dream of
understanding how the world works. They are very good at solving
problems especially the complex problems because of their good
analyzing skills. They are very eager to learn but they hate
wasting their time and resources. They are very logical and have a
strong will power. They can work for hours and hours in order to
complete or achieve their set goals. They value intelligence in
themselves and others. Their philosophy of life is work hard and
you will succeed.
In conclusion, I would like to say that there are four basic types
of personality which are artisan, guardian, idealistic and
rational. We all come in different shapes and sizes. We all have
strengths and weaknesses. What's right for one person may not be
right for another. By learning more about one's personality, and
about other personality types, we can come to a better
understanding of one's own strengths and weaknesses, which will
help us in gaining a better self-knowledge, defining and achieving
set goals, building our interpersonal relationships and realigning
one's expectations towards others.
